Festival fiesta has begun with a mighty programs in Wroclaw, Tri-City and Bielsko-Biała. But those staying in or coming to Krakow should have they evenings filled with good music as well. Krakow Autumn Jazz Festival continues, the fans of the more experimental and conceptual audio-video art should look closer at the Audio Art Festival programming.
9/10.11 Värt att veta om herr K. at Piec'ART
I've enlisted this duo in the last week schedule but a second mention is in place as the double nights closes the week and launches the new one. The complicated name stands for Karl Hjalmar Nyberg on saxophones and Andreas Skår Winther on drums. Improvising sax-drums duo from Norway? Count me in.
11.11 SamBar + Javier Cremona at Piękny Pies
SamBar is a baritone sax duo with Tomek Gadecki and Paulina Owczarek, they will be joined on stage by Javier Cremona. This is bound the sub-sound version of the clash of the titans.
12.11. Perch Hen Brock & Rain at Alchemia (Krakow Autumn Jazz Festival)
This might be one of the most exciting shows of the Krakow Autumn Jazz with new New York quartet by Ab Baars (tenor sax) and Ig Henneman (viola) with Ingrid Laubrock (alto) and Tom Rainey (drums). Europe jazz meets New York.
12.11 Wojtek Mazolewski Quitet at Piękny Pies
Wojtek Mazolewski is one of the few people in jazz world that crossed over to mainstream culture. All the show-biz razzle-dazzle aside - the Quintet is a strong unit. The concert is part of the release tour of new "Polka" cd. You should however expect more reggae than polka.
13.11. Peter Brotzmann / Jason Adasiewicz / Steve Noble at Alchemia (Krakow Autumn Jazz Festival)
The mighty saxophone player from Wuppertal is back in Krakow. You know what to expect. It's going to be loud, strong and scary good. Not for the faint of heart.
13-16.11 Bomba 5h birtdhay
Bomba is a peculiar place in Krakow, with barely any stage space yet with some great concerts that took place there, participating in many great initiatives like UnSound, Silent Movie Festival or being the club space for the afterparties. The club will celebrate it's birthday with three days of dj nights and fans of club music will definitely be satisfied.
14.11. Rafal Mazur solo at Auditorium Maximum UJ
Rafal Mazur's performance will accompany the three days science conference about the Culture of exclusion (polish spekares might be interested to have a look at the topics list).
14.11. Eric Shoves Them In His Pockets at Alchemia
Indie rock back, playing sad songs that somehow have the ability to cheer you up.
14-23.11 AUDIO ART Festival
Audio Art festival tackles an array of multimedia experimental approaches to sound and graphic art. Soundsculpture, sound installations, video performances and more - yearly festival is always among the most intriguing and underground cultural events in Krakow.
check the program on http://www.audio.art.pl/
15.11. KAZE at Alchemia (Krakow Autumn Jazz Festival)
KAZE is a quartet ledy by Satoko Fuji with an unusual line up of two trumpets (Natsuki Tamura and Christian Privost) and drums (Peter Orins) along the grand piano. Fuji's knack for twisted and complex compositions and ability to balance the opposites is always a great, for Satoko classical, avant-guarde, world, rock and jazz are all sources of inspiration. Incidentally, KAZE's concert couple of years ago was the subject of the very first review on this blog.
15.11 The Stubs & Monday Suicide at Piekny Pies
I've never seen yet The Stubs live and I have not yet learned to be in two places at the same time so I'm afraid I'll miss them again but anyone looking for some garage rock'n'roll shit should be there as this vid is off the hook.
16.11 Joanna Kurcharczyk Quartet at Piec'ART
Joanna Kucharczyk with her band is a contemporary example of vocal jazz music. Not shy to incorporate some modern pop influence but sincere and intimate. Those alergic to smooth sounds should stay home but those appreciative of some silky melodies every once in a while should enjoy it.
